The numbers of deer have fluctuated markedly since the entry of Europeans into Puget Sound country. David Douglas, Scottish botanical explorer of the 1830s, found a disturbing change in the animal life around the fort during the period between his first visit in 1825 and his final contact with the fort in 1832. A recent Douglas biographer states:" The deer which once picturesquely dotted the meadows around the fort were gone [in 1832], hunted to extermination in order to protect the crops."

题目问FV地区有什么转变，取自原文最后一句：鹿消失了，是为保护庄稼而猎杀殆尽。destroyed转述原文的were gone。

我们观察下D选项，“庄稼产量减少了”。会有同学开脑洞，难道不是因为庄稼要废了，才去保护的吗?所以也可以理解为庄稼的转变?--不选的原理很简单：原文没明说，不能随意推断。
