雅思写作题目：政府应该主要投入理科教育吗?

Most of the government funding should be invested in teaching science rather than any other subjects in order for a country to develop and make progress. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

这个题目是一个非常常见的雅思作文题目，难怪各大所谓预测机构都宣称自己押对了题。

老师向来都不赞成押题式教学，这完全是在把学生当傻瓜。题库命题，所有题都可能遇到，也可能遇不到，因此，押对了或者没押对，都证明不了什么。纯粹是一个几率问题。不过，近期作文有复古趋势，这个倒非常明显的。最近10次雅思考试中，2011年旧题重复了3次，2010年旧题重复1次，2014年重复2次，也就是说，最近10次考试中2015年以前的旧题重复就达到了6次！尽管如此，并不认为下次雅思作文题目就一定是2015年以前的旧题，但反过来，我们倒是可以说，复习备考的时候，不能忽略2015年以前的旧题，因为这些题有较大几率重出江湖。

本题问：一个国家要发展进步，政府的钱主要应该花在理科（理工农医等）教育上，而不是其他科目（历史、文学、哲学、艺术等），你在何种程度上同意这个观点？

本题中有most这种最词汇，一般都是用“先扬后抑”的方式对题目观点进行批判性论证。正常的写作逻辑是这样的：

段：引入话题；

第二段：政府应该投资理科教育，因为理科教育对国家的发展进步非常重要；

第三段：但其他科目对国家的发展进步也很重要：历史让我们记住过去，艺术能激励我们，哲学让我们思考。

第四段：因此，虽然我认为政府应该重视理科教育，甚至可以更重视理科教育，但不同意把多数钱都投给理科教育，而是应该也重视其他科目的教育。

也许有学生完全支持政府应该把多数资金都投入理科教育，这样的学生将面临一个任务，即论证清楚“对于国家的进步发展，为什么理科教育要比其他科目更为重要”，这个论证起来是相当困难的，因此，建议同学们不要选择这种论证思路。

The reason why many people believe that most of the government funding should go to subjects such as engineering, agriculture, and medicine is probably that they have just a one-sided conception about what development and progress of a country really means.

The most obvious sign of a country’s development and progress is of course its economic prosperity and material wealth. In this sense, arguing that the government should mainly support science-related subjects makes a lot of sense. Only with enough talents working in various scientific fields can a country become strong economically. The more scientific and technological breakthroughs a country makes, the more developed it is. This has been proved true by the 19th-century U.K. and 20th-century U.S.A., who largely depended on, respectively, industrial revolution and automobile industry for their prosperity.

However, the development and progress of a country also manifests itself socially and culturally. No matter how much economic strength it boasts, a country cannot inspire other countries if it is culturally deficient, or its citizens do not enjoy the social justice. It is here that the education of literature, arts, history, and philosophy has an important role to play, for these subjects can tell people how to avoid repeating mistakes in history, how to become good people, and how to look at the world from the right perspective.  

In conclusion, to achieve development and progress, the government ought to invest in both sciences and humanities. The effect of the investment in sciences may be immediately visible, while it may take a long time for that in humanities to be felt, which means that the government must have the foresight to give sufficient support to humanities before it is too late.
